Bedford College
Student Services Management

The Challenge

Student services information was collected and held on many different databases leading to long processes for looking at individual or groups of students. This also meant that reporting for self assessment, business planning and for Ofsted was incredibly resource heavy.

The Solution

Bedford College purchased INTUITION, allowing the Student Services team to efficiently collate and manage their data all from one web based tool.

The Result

INTUITION is providing Bedford College with a centralised source of information which joins up student activities right across the college. The time spent completing Self Assessment Reporting (SAR) has been reduced by 75%. A job which took 20 person days to complete now only takes 5 person days creating significant efficiency savings.

Burton and South Derbyshire College
Local labour market intelligence

The Challenge

Burton and South Derbyshire College has tended to make small changes to a core curriculum over a long period of time. With a rapidly changing FE sector, the college saw the need to shape it’s curriculum to meet current and future labour demand.

The Solution

Analyst and TSM were used by Burton and South Derbyshire College to generate the key data needed to support the curriculum planning process. The college is now able to quickly and simply analyse sector and occupation forecasts alongside the sector profiles of employers and current customers.

The Result

As part of the employer facing strategy, Burton and South Derbyshire College will be introducing a new portfolio of market aligned courses that underpin the economic development of the college’s locality. New growth sectors have also been uncovered which the college had not focused on previously.

Evidencing excellence

The Challenge

Burton and South Derbyshire College makes a significant impact on their local economy but has found that generating the evidence to substantiate this has been a challenge. Reputation building tended to rely on qualitative indicators of success instead of reliable hard evidence.

The Solution

Burton and South Derbyshire College commissioned EMSI to provide an Economic Impact Study providing solid financial insight into the value that the college gives to the local economy, its learners and various funding agencies.

The Result

Burton and South Derbyshire College now has a solid platform for stakeholder engagement, putting the college at the heart of local economic development. The college is now setting more realistic and measureable targets using their new approach to KPIs which will aid in achieving the overall strategic plan.

West Kent College
Reorganising account management territories

The Challenge

Account Managers within the Business Development team had traditionally defined their markets using a sector specific approach which lead to inefficient time management and high costs claimed as travel expenses.

The Result

Within 3 months of the reorganisation, the number of customer visits had increased by 40% and travel costs have been reduced by 25%, providing a full return on investment.

Thanet College
Diversifying income base

The Challenge

Thanet College saw the need to diversity their income base away from reliance on standard government sources so developed a portfolio of full cost courses. Despite targeting 3,000 local businesses the marketing effort generated little interest leading to the threat of course cancellation.

The Solution

Moving to a B2C approach, Thanet College undertook a lifestyle review to identify key target groups that met their preferred target audience criteria.

The Result

In only 10 days all spaces on the Change Management Course were filled as well as generating sufficient interest to fill the waiting list for a subsequent course. Generating the target list took only 30 minutes resulting in an immediate income of £2,500 with another £2,500 potential from the future course waiting list.
